I just bought this for a Middle School teacher to add to her collection of books for the students to read. I want my children and their friends to understand why John F. Kennedy was elected. The PT-109 with Kennedy as its leader had been cut in two by a Japanese ship, so the Allied Forces thought the PT-109 and its crew dead. Kennedy provided much of the heart and brawn to save and work toward the rescue of his crew even walking on sharp coral, cutting his feet up, with a crewman on his back. Of those who made the ultimate sacrifice, Kennedy made sure he contacted the relatives and kept in touch with some of them for the rest of his life. The coconut with his message cut into it that was delivered by the natives to the Allied Forces was a prominent feature of his desk when he moved into the Oval Office. This is an awesome telling of a great story which explains who we are as a people and why John F. Kennedy was our president.
There is one omission, I wish this book included the song that they sang when the natives and the injured Americans were together.
