excellent historical autobiographical fiction

Now elderly and still as tiny as a "skeeter" but with a bite ten times worse, Allie Earp thinks back to her days with her beloved Virgil, one of the famous Earp brothers. Allie now knows how wonderful her Virgil was to her as he never shut her up when she cursed or used a gun; in fact he encouraged her to be a strong person in her own right and not just a tough woman. She reminisces of the days of riding at his side along with Wyatt and the rest of the now legendary brood. She was there at dangerous Deadwood for the most famous gunfight in history, the O.K. Corral. She was always there for Virgil and he was there for her. Now in her old age, Allie provides a fresh perspective to what most believe was a testosterone lifestyle.
This is an excellent historical autobiographical fiction starring a woman who literally stood by her man just like her man stood by her. Well written, readers see a wider deeper scope into the Earp legends from a woman who was with them through many of their adventures. Jane Candia Coleman will enthrall her audience with this fine tale as Allie looks back on what she considers a rewarding life with her beloved supportive Virgil.

A Girl With Grit

Great start!! Love the heroine, Allie. In the beginning she is a young girl with a lot of sass. She curses, declares herself a heathen, and if you are a man, don't dare lay a hand on her arse! She becomes an orphan and learns to look after herself. She meets Verge Earp, brother to the famous Wyatt and runs off to play husband and wife with him. From this point on, she packs up and follows him everywhere. While he is always getting into trouble or getting restless and wanting to move on, she is at home waiting and worrying. However, I loved the look into the life of the Wyatt women. You meet them all in here, Big Nose Kate, Sadie, Mattie, Lou, Bessie.
The last quarter stank. I mentioned above that basically, Allie is always at home waiting and worrying. She is never involved in the action herself but at home cooking or doing laundry. The last quarter of the novel is when things start getting exciting. The Wyatt brothers try to establish law and order in Tombstone but things just go all wrong. There are horse thieves, shootouts, affairs, and dirty sheriffs. The problem is, with Allie hardly leaving the house and this being a first person POV from Allie's viewpoint, the reader is never involved in the action, but hears it second hand, thru Allie who is never there herself.
Thus, four stars. I loved Allie and her sense of humor tho. As the back of the book states, she has true grit.

Great Read

I've had this book in print for a while and it's a great addition to my Kindle. Wonderfully written and characters are lifelike. You know these people actually lived and even though it's fiction it's believable. Definitely a keeper for me.
